Archaism, an appliance still used by the Dakota, though the Omaha had it formerly. It consists of two forked posts a few feet apart, supporting a transverse pole, set up between the fireplace and the seat at the back of the lodge. It was used for suspending the bow, quiver, shield, saddle, etc., of the owner of the lodge. |
